Bank got hacked

The 7th largest bank in financial and services organization and largest in Europe, the HSBC bank has been recently hacked. The bank is now sending letters to their account holders letting them know that the hackers have their account details.
In a letter submitted to the attorney in California, the bank said that they became aware of the hacking somewhere around 4th-14th October. When they found that their accounts have been hacked, they immediately disconnected their online banking system to prevent any damage to the account holders. They also sent emails and calls to their account holders letting them know that the bank has changed their online transaction credentials after the hacking. The information that las leaked or accessible to the hackers were, the name, email, phone number, account type, account number, balance and recent transactions of the account holder.

The bank has not given any details as to how the hacker got into their system or how they got access to the account holders information.
